- Cancer is no longer a death sentence as it used to be decades ago.
- Cancer has become more prevalent because of rapid changes in the way we live.
- Cancer prevention should be your life’s priority and you shouldn’t live in fear of cancer.
No one wants to be told that they have cancer, but sometimes you just can’t avoid it no matter how conscientious you are about health. Or perhaps you have a loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer. Unlike how it was in the sixties and seventies, cancer is no longer a death sentence.
Survival rates from cancer are extremely encouraging particularly if diagnosed early. But treatment can be tough on your body and mind. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy sap your energy and the associated side effects of treatment, such as nausea and fatigue make life miserable. But this doesn’t mean you have to roll over and surrender. Vitamode believes that you should find what powers you and not let cancer get you down with our Stay Active Campaign. Stay tuned to our website for more details.
Why is cancer such a threat?
Cancer is a very peculiar thing. In a nutshell, cancers are like rebel cells, ignoring your body’s command and working autonomously of all your other cells. Unfortunately once they start multiplying, these rebels will eventually take over. Hence, the advancing cancer starts to affect you and create chaos within your body.
The reason why cancer has become so prevalent remains unclear. We do know that there are risk factors that increase the probability of developing cancer:
- Physical inactivity
- Obesity and poor dietary habits
- Cigarettes and alcohol
- Exposure to pollutants in air, water and food
- Exposure to radiation, which include x-rays and the sun’s ultraviolet light
What you may notice is that most of these risk factors are within your control. You can choose to be more physically active, eat healthier and not indulge in cigarettes or alcohol. You might be thinking, “Here we go again, another article nagging us to live better blah blah blah …” You’d be right but would you rather be healthy or live the way you want and suffer the consequences of cancer later? The choice is yours.
Antioxidants and cancer
One culprit that makes cancer more likely is the free radical. This much maligned element is involved in virtually all chemical processes in your body. Your body has many safeguards to deal with free radicals, but the modern lifestyle has rendered them insufficient. Your follies such as over-eating, alcohol overconsumption, excessive stress and sedentary behaviour increase the levels of free radicals. Your body becomes overwhelmed and essentially, ages prematurely. This premature aging leads to diseases like cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
Antioxidants are one way of tackling premature aging. Many of these antioxidants are in the fruits and vegetables you eat. Vitamins A, C and E and minerals such as zinc, copper and chromium are generally accepted as helpful in protecting you against free radicals.
CoQ10, ubiquitous yet relatively unknown
Have you heard of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)? Also known as ubiquinone (from the word ‘ubiquitous’) it’s a compound commonly found in the power plants of your cells, called the mitochondria. As a consequence of aging there’s less CoQ10 in your cells. CoQ10 participates in your cell’s energy production and also serves as a free-radical ‘mop’. It mops up the free radicals and prevents it from damaging cells. From a cancer prevention perspective, it’s very promising.
But even if you or a loved one has cancer, CoQ10 doesn’t stop giving. Some recent studies have suggested that CoQ10 may slow tumour growth and prevent them from multiplying. CoQ10 is known to boost the immune system’s response to cancer cells. It also addresses certain side effects associated with chemotherapy, particularly in the heart.
Now that you’ve heard about the strengths of CoQ10, do we have something for you! How about trying our CoQ10 Ubiquinol 100mg Softgel? https://www.vitamode.com.my/product/coq10-ubiquinol-100mg-softgel/ It’s a potent antioxidant and will also help protect your heart. Feeling lethargic? CoQ10 gives you more energy to do the things you want to do. Do note that you should talk to your doctor first, if you’re on cancer treatment and plan to take CoQ10.
So stop fearing cancer and do something about it! Remember cancer prevention should be your highest priority. But be comforted that cancer is no longer a death sentence and most people who do develop it, get treatment and live long and normal lives. You shouldn’t shrivel up in fear, live life and find what powers you today!
